And then there were nuns! The 2016 Drayton Theatre Season at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge comes to a glorious end with Sister Act, one of Broadway’s biggest blockbusters on stage from November 23 to December 24.

Based on the iconic film starring Whoopi Goldberg, this hilarious musical comedy features an original score by Alan Menken and Glenn Slater (The Little Mermaid), with a vast inspiration of musical styles from Motown to soul and funk, to great big disco anthems.

“We are extremely excited to bring this divine musical comedy to audiences in Waterloo Region,” says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment.

“Its global success is testament to the level of entertainment that you can expect from this show. Sister Act has something for everyone – an outrageously funny story, infectious music, and a group of sisters you can’t help but root for.”

The story unfolds as wannabe diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a brutal crime and is forced to hide out in a convent. Finding herself at odds with the rigid lifestyle enforced by the stern Mother Superior, Deloris uses her remarkable musical talent and unique disco moves to help her fellow sisters find their inner voices – while rediscovering her own along the way.

Directed by Max Reimer, who is the current Executive Producer for Drayton Entertainment. Sister Act features newcomer Aurianna Angelique, who wowed audiences with her fabulous voice earlier this season in Legends of Rock ‘n’ Roll and Smokey Joe’s Café. Here she takes on the iconic role of the ebullient Deloris Van Cartier. Her extensive credits include productions throughout North America, including Hairspray, Dreamgirls, and Rent, to a name a few.

Fresh from her role as Vi Moore in Footloose, Susan Gilmour plays the unyielding Mother Superior intent on keeping things prim and proper at the convent.

Susan Johnston Collins, Laura Mae Nason and Rebecca Poff play Sister Mary Patrick, Sister Mary Robert, and Sister Mary Lazarus respectively. Amanda Leigh and Lorraine Foreman play Sister Mary Martin-of-Tours and Sister Mary Theresa. Larry Mannell is Monsignor O’Hara.

The role of Curtis, Deloris’ boyfriend and notorious gangster, is portrayed by fan favourite Lee Siegel. Siegel’s notable credits with Drayton Entertainment include Javert in Les Misérables, John in Miss Saigon, and Legends … of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Matthew Brown plays Eddie Souther, desk chief at the Philadelphia police station and high school classmate of Deloris who helps her into hiding.

The star-studded cast also includes David Lopez, Gerrad Everard, Oscar Moreno and Michael Clarke as Curtis’ lackeys T.J, Joey, Pablo and Ernie; Vanessa Cobham and Sarah Horsman as Deloris’ friends and back-up singers Michelle and Tina; along with Amie Debrone, Laura Larson, Clea McCaffrey, Chad McNamara, Brett Taylor, Jody Whitfield and Breanna Willis.

A feel-good musical comedy that speaks to the bond of unexpected friendship, the production includes show-stopping numbers like “Take Me to Heaven,” “Raise Your Voice,” and “The Life I Never Lead.”
