Where were you in ‘82?
The A. R. Kaufman Family YMCA was just opening its brand new doors to the community.
It celebrated its 30th anniversary by inviting former staff, volunteers and members to drop by during the week of November 26 to 30 to take a tour, join a class or work out for free. Some shared stories about their time at the YMCA on a display board in the front hallway.
“We’re taking the opportunity to recognize that we’re 30 years young,” said General Manager Kim McLean.
She said the building has gone through a number of expansions since it was built. In 2005, a 6,000 square foot conditioning centre was added. In the spring of 2011, another 6,000 square feet were added on top of the conditioning centre for a wellness centre.
The gym floor and track have also been refurbished over the
years.
McLean said the staff are “having a little bit of fun” during the anniversary celebration, dressing in 80s clothes and playing 80s music during the fitness classes.
In a current promotion, if you sign up for a YMCA membership before December 31, you will get your first month free.
