#LOVEMYHOOD
Thousands of people expected to take part in 2nd annual Neighbours Day
On June 11, 2016, thousands of citizens will come together across Kitchener to participate in the second annual Neighbours Day; an event that celebrates the dynamic and vibrant places, spaces and people that live in Kitchener.

More than 5000 people attended last year’s Neighbours Day activities, and this year that number is anticipated to be even bigger as the community gets in on the action.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to host their own Neighbours Day event for their neighbourhood.

Registered events will receive two Neighbours Day t-shirts, a Neighbours Day lawn sign, exposure through www.Kitchener.ca/neighboursday webpage, support and assistance from community centre staff, and a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to purchase supplies for the day’s events! Registrations will be accepted until May 25, 2016. Anyone interested in hosting an event in their neighbourhood is encouraged to register by visiting www.kitchener.ca/neighboursday.

“It’s great to see so many people come to-gether to #lovemyhood in neighbourhoods across the city,” said Mayor Berry Vrbanovic.

“The number of volunteers, partners, and sponsors who come together to celebrate the people and places in Kitchener, really tells a story about the people who live here. It demonstrates that by working together, we can build communities that are safer, stronger and more connected.”

Neighbours Day is supported by over 200 volunteers, and has already inspired a number of unofficial partner events through organizations like the Kitchener Public Library.

This event would not be possible without the community partners, neighbourhood associations, city staff, sponsors and volunteers who have come together to plan events and activities for residents of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.

Residents are encouraged to visit www.kitchener.ca/neighboursday to find out what’s happening in a neighbourhood near them, but here’s a short list of just a few activities that will be taking place:

• Community BBQs
• Giveaways
• Music
• Open mic
• Scavenger hunt
• Crafts
• Demos
• Tours
• Pancake breakfast
• Fire truck tours
• Face painting
• Games
• Garage sales
• Reptile show

Residents will also be able to learn about programs and services that are available in the city, including community centre and neighbourhood association programming, and have an opportunity to interact with regional police, Kitchener firefighters, bylaw officers and more.

Individuals and organizations interested in getting involved in Neighbours Day 2016 are encouraged to contact the organizers at neighboursday@kitchener.ca indicating how they would like to get involved.
